The State of Florida is trying to give up critical and beloved conservation land within the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve in St. Johns County for a hodgepodge of less valuable parcels scattered across the state - Not on our watch! Contact members of the Acquisition and Restoration Council and ask them to reject this terrible proposal to give away our treasured conservation lands to developers.
We need your help to stop the Guana River Wildlife Management Area Land Swap.
This environmentally and culturally significant conservation land, bought by the state under Governor Bob Graham, is on the verge of being handed over to private developers. The state did not buy these lands to just hold on to them until a developer came along with an offer. Conservation lands are meant to be forever.
Thanks to Audubon Florida for catching this land swap proposal and alerting the conservation community. Let’s make it clear to our elected officials and FDEP that we will not sit by and watch them sell off our conservation lands piece by piece.
Take action on or before May 20, and if you can, we encourage you to attend the ARC meeting at FDEP’s office in Tallahassee on May 21 at 9 a.m. in person or online. Be sure to customize the email and include your own subject line such as "Reject the Guana Land Swap" or "Protect Guana River WMA"
