Springs Harm Rule

Springs Harm Rule

Tell Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Shawn Hamilton:

Stop avoiding. Stop delaying. Stop abusing the process.

Join us in telling FDEP to either adopt a rule that meets the requirements of law and protects Outstanding Florida's Springs from harmful water withdrawals or propose the current invalid draft rule for adoption so we can overturn it in court.

The law (373.219(3), F.S.), signed by Governor Rick Scott in 2016 as part of SB 552, says that FDEP must “adopt uniform rules for issuing permits which prevent groundwater withdrawals that are harmful” to Outstanding Florida Springs. For eight years, FDEP has flagrantly disregarded the law and refused to propose statutorily required rules to protect Outstanding Florida Springs, benefitting developers and regulated industries at the expense of Florida’s springs and rivers.

Use our system to tell FDEP to stop playing games and propose the Florida Springs Council’s more protective rule for adoption. Join the over 120 springs advocates who showed up to DEP’s workshop on Sept. 12 to protest the Department’s dereliction of duty by sending an email to DEP.

FDEP is accepting comment on the springs harm rule until October 17, 2024.
