2026 Legislative Session

2026 Legislative Session

Good News: This week, Senator Jason Brodeur and Representative Wyman Duggan filed identical bills (House Bill 981 and Senate Bill 1066, respectively) creating the “Northeast Florida Rivers, Springs, and Community Investment Act.” This historic legislation requires the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to restore the Ocklawaha River by the end of 2032.

Join us in thanking Senator Brodeur and Rep. Duggan for filing these bills to restore our rivers and vital habitat for manatees and other wildlife, protect rural communities, increase recreational opportunities and benefit local economies. Please add your own thank-you message and your email will be sent directly to the bill sponsors.

FSC members and allies sent more than 20,000 emails and made thousands of calls last year asking our Legislators to protect our environment. Your advocacy made a difference as bills protecting State Parks from development and banning oil drilling near the Apalachicola River passed unanimously and were signed into law, while industry-backed bills to eliminate local plastic and foam restrictions died on the House Floor.

While we are often telling our legislators what we want them to do, it's equally important to say thank you when they get it right. A simple thank-you email can build powerful relationships and show legislators that protecting our water, wildlife and wild places earns real support.

Be sure to personalize the message and add your own subject line like "Thanks for championing Ocklawaha River restoration"

We’ll need your help from now until the end of the legislative session in March to get SB 1066/HB 981 across the finish line!
