2026 Legislative Session

HB 1421: Cattle Grazing on State Land by Representative Albert hands our State Parks, State Forests, and public hunting lands over to private interests, putting public access, water quality, and imperiled ecosystems at risk!

This harmful bill is being voted on Tuesday, Feb. 17 in the House State Affairs Committee – Email members of the Committee today asking them to VOTE NO on HB 1421: Cattle Grazing on State Land by Representative Albert.

We have TWO ACTIONS for you to complete to send emails to the entire State Affairs Committee-After you send this email, be sure to click on to part 2!

Last year the Legislature unanimously voted to protect conservation lands from being privatized and commercialized. HB 1421 does the opposite. Like golf courses, hotels, and pickleball courts, commercial agriculture has no place in our state parks. This is the bill’s last committee in the House, so we need to rally together to keep our public lands in public hands!

HB 1421 mandates DEP, FDACS, and FWC to allow cattle grazing on all state conservation lands “determined to be suitable.”

  • HB 1421  intentionally leaves “suitable” undefined, offering little ability for state agencies to reject cattle grazing and no assurance that public access and wildlife habitat will be preserved.

  • HB 1421 violates the public interest and harms our environment by mandating the introduction of non-native, highly polluting livestock, on Florida’s most important conservation and hunting lands.

  • Additional cattle on conservation lands will have harmful water quality impacts to Outstanding Florida Waters and Springs across the state.

  • Like hotels, golf courses, and pickleball courts, intensive agriculture is not compatible with our world-class state parks and publicly owned hunting lands.

We need to remind our legislators that our State Parks, State Forests and public hunting lands are not for sale or lease to the highest bidder. Florida cannot afford to lose the iconic conservation lands that have already been acquired - using public funds, for our enjoyment and well-being - especially at a time when the Legislature has gutted the Florida Forever program to purchase new, publicly accessible, conservation lands.

Call and email members of the committee before Tuesday, and ask them to vote NO on HB 1421: Cattle Grazing on State Land by Rep. Albert to leave our public conservation lands accessible and free from incompatible commercial activity.
