2025 Legislative Session

2025 Legislative Session

The Apalachicola oil drilling ban (HB 1143) passed the Florida Legislature unanimously and is headed to the Governor’s desk thanks to a hard-working community of local fishermen, oyster farmers, business owners, conservationists and leaders in the Capitol who rely on and recognize the importance of a healthy Apalachicola Bay. Join us in thanking the legislators who stood by their community, sponsored the oil drilling bills and made it a priority to get these bills passed - Please add your own thank-you message and your email will be sent directly to the following group of legislators:

  • Representative Shoaf: Sponsored the Apalachicola oil drilling ban bill, including a 10 mile buffer around National Estuarine Research Reserves, in the House, and worked tirelessly to get his bill across the finish line this Session.

  • Senator Simon: Sponsored the Apalachicola oil drilling ban bill in the Senate and made sure a strong bill passed and will be sent to the Governor.

  • Representative Tant: Worked with Representative Shoaf to sponsor the Apalachicola oil drilling ban bill and get it passed the House and Senate Floor with overwhelming support.

This session made it clear, contacting lawmakers can change things in Tallahassee and together our voices are more powerful than special interest lobbyists. FSC members and allies sent more than 11,000 emails and made thousands of calls this Session asking our Legislators to protect our environment. But they need to hear from us not just when we’re pushing back, but when they get it right. A simple thank-you email can build powerful relationships and show legislators that protecting our water, wildlife and wild places earns real support.
